Richard Vetere’s plays Black & White City Blues and Zagłada were named Best Plays of 2025 by Drama Desk critic Daryl Reilly in Theater Scene. He co-wrote the feature film The Third Miracle, adapted from his novel and produced by Francis Ford Coppola, directed by Agnieszka Holland, and starring Ed Harris and Anne Heche. His teleplay adaptation of his stage play, The Marriage Fool, starring Walter Matthau, Carol Burnett, and John Stamos, became one of CBS’s highest-rated television movies. Vetere also wrote the cult-classic film Vigilante and adapted his play Hale the Hero! for A&E, starring Elisabeth Shue. His screenplay Caravaggio, adapted from his stage play, won the Golden Palm Award for Best Screenplay at the Beverly Hills International Film Festival in 2021. His plays are published by Dramatic Publishing. Vetere holds a master’s degree in Comparative English Literature from Columbia University. In 2005, Stony Brook University established the Richard Vetere Collection, an archive of his work. He is a lifetime member of the Writers Guild of America East, the Dramatists Guild, and the Authors Guild.
